Fallout Cosplay

Pretty new to 3d printing, but wanted to document what I did when I forget.  😊   Using Creality K1 Max with Elegoo PLA.

4/08/24 - IDEA:  About this time, Millenium Fandom Bar (MFB) posted an event for Fallout in celebration of the new TV Series and the Bartender, Tyler's birthday.   Phill follows this very talented https://www.kamuicosplay.com/ @kamuicosplay and gave me the idea of a cowgirl-type outfit:

Phill played the game and knew he wanted to an NCR Ranger.  He also suggested doing Euclid's C-Finder Gun.  The gun reminded me of Marven the Martian, but probably because of the color scheme.  I deferred to him on it.

4/9/24 - GUNS.  For some reason, I started with guns.  I grabbed the Euclid's gun from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1025405. Euclid's Gun.  I also printed a simple Sequoia Pistol from Thingiverse.  Also found a Gladius Machete from Thingiverse.

My first print, I apparently have no idea how large the pistol or the machete should be, because they came out small. Took about 7 hours to print.

Euclid’s gun came out a great size.  I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with the small ones at this point, so I moved on.

4/10/24.  Next, SHOULDER ARMOR.  I downloaded Riot Armor.  Worked great, printed perfectly the first time.  Took about 13 hours.

4/10/24 – I started the LOWER LEG ARMOR and KNEECAP ARMOR.  I used the leg and kneecap armor from NCR Ranger Patrol Armor. A bit of a struggle, first 5 prints on 4/10 and 4/11 failed.  Kept an eye on the printing, so caught them mostly pretty early.

I have a few profiles.  One of the perfect ones I received from Uncle Jessy by subscribing to his Patreon.  He has SOOOO many good tips.

Finally 4/13/24, I had lower leg armor printed.  4/12 at 4:30 pm to 4/13 at 6:35 am., about 14 hours.  I started painting with a combination of browns for a rusty look.  I used part airbrushing and part sponge painting.  Once I received The Army Painter Dry Rust airbrush paint from Amazon, it really took it up the rust color up to a perfect color I thought:

4/13/24 – CHEST ARMOR.  I used the chest from the NCR Ranger Patrol Armor.  Printed perfect the first time. 9 and ½ hours.  I painted with the same techniques as the leg armor:

4/13/24.  I decided I need some SPIKES.  I used some from Death Spikes, Rail Spikes for Mailboxes and Bird Spikes (Phill helped me remove the bottom part the connected them).  I used Phills Wagner Furno 300 Heat Gun to bend the spikes a bit so they weren’t straight.  I used my new Dremel to drill some holes and stuck them through hot glueing them.  The flat ones, I actually drilled a long hole, and heated them up and bent them so they would stay.  I was pleased with the final version.  Didn’t think it through waling through the crown with them, but most survived.  😊

4/13/24 – KNIVES.  I decided to embrace my little machete knives I printed and printed more.  I made a knife holder for my thigh and put a couple in my holster:

4/15/24 – BOTTLE CAPS.  Must have bottle caps.  First print, were not hollow on the bottom.  So I switched to Nuka Bottle Caps and Bottle Cap Bottle Opener to give to the bartenders.  I printed it with red filament.  I was waiting for the new filament to be delivered.  2 ½ hours to print.  I printed A LOT.

4/16/24 – PHILL LOWER LEG ARMOR. I could not get Phlill’s lower leg armor to print.  New box of filament and it just would not work.  After 8 failures, we moved on to more important things.

4/17/24 – Phill SHOULDER ARMOR. We used the same file. Failed 4 times, but then I got them to work with a 10-hour print.

4/18/24 – PHILL HELMET.  Phill found some Riot Gear he liked.  First printing, 8 hours.  And he forgot to scale it.   I tried to heat gun it bigger, but still too small:

So, since I work from home, it is easier for me to load up a new print and start it.  We scaled it up a bit larger than planned through some miscommunication, but the final result still came out great.  We oriented it in a way to try to reduce the printing, but the printer didn’t like that.  After a few fails, I went with the most sturdy, but very long print.  So after a 23-hour print:

I missed a couple greens to make an army-colored green. My airbrush decided not to cooperate, so I painted the helmet with sponge technique, which worked very well.  A little black splotches to make it look worn and turned out great.

4/19/24 – PHILL’S MASK. A few failed prints for this one, I finally got an 18 hour print to come out with a not very visible small failure.

4/20/24 – SHOTGUN SHELLS- Phill needed some for his belt.   Printed out a few that took about 1 ½ hours.  We were in a rush and I totally forgot to take any photos.  😊

FINAL TOUCHES leading up to and on 4/20/24.

  • On 4/13/24, Phil and I went to SaniThrift at Primm Outlet Mall to find two blue jumpsuits.  I just HAD to sew gold on them.

  • Finished painting the pieces, covering with Matte sealer spray

  • I blued D-rings on the chest armor and shoulder armor.

  • The lower leg armor, I glued stretch straps and Velcro to secure.

  • Phill received a bunch of gun holster and belts in a lot from Goodwill, which had the perfect gun holster for me.  I painted the black holster brown.

  • I had an old brown cowboy hat and had painted some old boots brown already, so I used those.

  • We used a back stretchy thing that Phill had to attach the chest armor.  I don’t remember what it was from and pinned the shoulder armor to the straps.

  • Lower leg armor was too small to go over the boots, so I didn’t use them.  Kneecaps, I had planned on just gluing them to the jumpsuit, but forgot, so I didn’t use them.  Saving for the next armor cosplay.

  • Phill grabbed some form and made himself some chest armor.

  • Phill glued an old snowboarding mask to the inside of the face mask which worked great for the eye shield and made everything stick together.

And final result:
